After compressing the quilt, not all spaces are filled with down, so it takes some shaking and moving to get an evenly distributed loft. The Enigma kept my body temperature regulated during colder nights when it was 30 -40 degrees and stayed dry even with all the condensation in the tent. I didn't like the cinch foot box. EE is my go-to place for quilts! Their product had so much potential in my eyes, and I applaud the marketing, but I am very disappointed with the follow through. The coldest temps I used it in was about 30 degrees. I look forward to using it in the Rockies this summer with it's light weight and warmth. So I ordered both of us Enigma Custom 20 degree bags. I own 2 Revelations (20 & 40 degree) and this is my first sewn footbox. The extra room allows me to completely snuggle underneath without worrying about any cold air getting in. I've taken it out twice now and been toasty warm both times. After a brief stint with customer service (you guys were great), I was educated that the seam length was actually 78", but once the fill aerates, the length shrinks a little bit. 100 dollar bill. But I also understand that anyone reading this review has the right to not believe me. I put up with them for 30 years, but a frozen shoulder condition finally put me over the edge - I NEEDED something wider. Would highly recommend. I am a recently new backpacker, spending most of my time in CA (Yosemite, JMT) and most recently Havasu Falls (AZ) I have an incredible Big Agnes Mystic 15F which is frankly way too hot (and maybe heavy?) I am a female 5'3" 120lbs and sleep cold all night. i was way overdressed! I was apprehensive at first, the support staff at EE was GREAT (spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me and answered all my questions). The only downside is the fact you have to wait weeks to receive it. A major plus is the fact it comes with a larger storage sack you use during non use, and a water resistant sack during trips. When I sleep well, I hike better, especially with less weight on my back. I question why soldiers are not using a 20 Deg F Enigma across the ranks. (Down Type (DownTek Treated): 850, Temperature: 0°F (-17°C), Length: Short, Width: Regular, First time in mid 20s, stayed warm. In Oct I was up at Yosemite, night time temps dropped to 24 degrees. This helped keep the quilt in position as I thrashed around. I've used the quilt twice since receiving it. It's light, immensely packable, super comfortable and at 40F was super warm and cozy. Admittedly I sleep VERY cold so I wasn't even sure a 10 degree quilt would keep me warm at 30 degrees. The EE Enigmas are very simple, light weight and made well with care. That darn draw string around the top of the quilt drove me up the wall especially . I swapped the elastic strap for a second elastic loop band so both my elastic bands now attach to the sleeping pad. The Enigma is so much lighter than the sleeping bag I usually carry, as well. Not once did I think the quilt was too short. I'll probably use it (and be very happy with it) in Swiss or Norway. It works so well, my husband is now thinking he needs something similar. From early season September hunts to a mid October goat hunt at 10,000 feet, my quilt has kept me plenty warm and for the first time in a long time I have a sleeping system that actually fits me! If you're at all on the fence about customizing your own quilt just do it. I had expected the quilt to let drafts in, particularly when turning over but this has not been the case. My only complaints are that 1) I REALLY wish they would have included a compression sack. I ordered the wide since it was recommended for side sleepers to get a size larger. I ordered a 10° wide bag with 20D material on the outside, and the first thing that I noticed was the weight, or lack-thereof. One little detail I noticed with the quilt is that when the humidity is higher the down starts to smell like burnt grains. Will be getting an under quilt, jacket, and hoodie soon. The stitching seems to be not as dependable as the others though. Once on a weeklong kayak trip, where I had it as part of my one-link hammock system, and once on a four-day backpacking trip. Weight and size of things is always a consideration. So if you're on the fence about going with one of these quilts - go ahead and jump -- you won't find a better deal anywhere else & these quilts keep you just as warm as sleeping bags (especially if you use the included straps). I bought this for a 12 day hike in the Adirondacks in the fall and it did NOT dissapoint! The long/wide dimensions were plenty large enough for my 6'4" frame, with a little bit of extra to tuck in to keep the warmth in. I woke up in 15 degree weather, a slight frost near my mouth on the quilt (which shook right off the 10D silny material). For half the price I was eager to give it a try!. The construction is incredible for the price too. We're fine even in September and October so long as we have some clothing on too. Ordered the regular length and wide version ( I am 177cm and 80kg) and I am really amazed that i can actually use it as a sleeping bag and still have lots of space inside to move. So nice to be able to have my arms free and to be able to turn easily. The price of gold back then was only $550.00 per ounce Canadian. Honestly, I had relatively low expectations about getting a handmade quilt. I was able to shift my enigma to fit the temp changes and sleep comfortably the whole night. If you are concerned, buy a waterproof stuff sack for it, but don't bother with synthetic. It's extremely comfortable, I have enough space to roll around and not feel tight, I've never been cold with it, I used it at about 30°F and was nearly too warm so I didn't close it entirely. It took me a couple of times messing with the strap system to get it adjusted, but after that, it worked fine. but, i ordered it anyway; it takes 6 to 7 weeks to get one. The fabric is so light you can actually see the down inside the baffles when held up to the light, haha! Great job EE! I ordered solely based on weight. This quilt weighs less than half the weight of my previous Marmot 15 degree Helium bag, which is by no means a heavy bag. I was able to put my Salewa snow shoe boots and all my clothes in my bag at night to keep them warm. I have used Montbell, Western Mountaineering, Sierra Designs, and Thermarest over the years. The elastic straps system works beautifully, and I was warm well below freezing (in a 20 degree quilt). The workmanship is impressive - the bag looks great. The quilt is super lightweight and see through when held up to a light. These conditions included temperatures down to 20 degrees F and high winds that were up to 40 - 50 mph at elevations of over 11,000 ft in the Pecos Wilderness. I tested it at around 32F (dry, no wind) and I was perfectly warm. Havent had a chance to really get out and give it a try yet but I can tell its going to be plenty warm for what I need itbto do!
